Eun Mi Chun
Statement
It is in the human nature to sometimes feel like masquerading oneself or wanting to turn into another creature. The wishes behind this may be to simply hide your outer features or to project your true inner nature to the outside. The masquerade is closing the gap between the outer reality and what is going on in our mind.
My necklaces can be seen as a costume. Dyeing the animal skin is like putting on make-up. They have the function to show your own dreams and to turn the inside to outside. For this reason I chose the wings of a powerful eagle and blue bird or the tail of a wily fox that can spread feelings of freedom and idealism.
The current role of jewellery seems to be exactly this and for that reason again has the same functions that jewellery had in its origins. By wearing pieces of contemporary jewellery it is possible to either masquerade oneself or show one’s hidden ideals. Because jewellery only works together with the human body this function is best fullfilled with the medium of contemporary jewellery than any other art form.

I make objects for the body, creating a place of mystery, dimension, fluidity and intrigue. I like to travel to and through my work and hope the things that interest me will interest and seduce the wearer/collector.
I am attracted to the challenge of materials and processes to create work that investigates the body. My jewelry is influenced by history, my memory, experiences and environment. My environment is urban – in the city of glass and concrete I explore space, shadows and nature. I am an observer – walking and public transportation is my library.
Through the structure of jewelry and adornment I want to tease our senses, create awareness of our bodies and encourage communication.
